ATI just release another set of unified drivers, the 6025 Betas. With ATI now releasing betas and leaks at twice the speed of nVidia, I can now officially state that ATI no longer has driver problems. This means that if you don't want an ATI card, it's not because they have bad drivers. ATI releases drivers just as fast as nVidia, and so only a fool would call ATI slow at driver updates and quality.

GF4 will probably outperform the 8500, but the R300 will see to beating the GF4. Where is Flame, I want him to read this thread. He hates ATI, hehe.

looks like i've got some catching up to do...

They are not leaked drivers; they are a new set official beta drivers. The 6025/9013, on ATI's website, is for it's entire series of Radeons.

either way...im still behind on testing the drivers...
btw...how are these new beta drivers?
have you tested them yet?
finally...are they better than the leaked 6018 drivers?

one more thing...what are you're video card setting...
ie...what kind of mods/overclocking did you do to your card?
did you buy ram sinks and a new cooler for it?
im trying to get into the 9000 range w/ my new system (at least mid 8000's).
i havent tested my new system yet cuz i havent had the chance to put it together...maybe this weekend.

Yes, I have. They are less buggy and more stable than 6018 but performance isn't too much better.

I don't have any mods or tweaks and I get around 7600 on a 1.33GHz Athlon. That's actually 1% higher than the average 1.33GHz Athlon.

Not only that... that's a 1.33GHz with PC133 CL2 RAM. Not bad at all...

you're making my P4 w/ sdram feel bad ...

Don't feel bad, it's a fact that the P4 loses more performance with SDRAM than the Athlon. In fact, with all the benchmarks I've run on my system so far (Quake III, UT, 3DMark2001, SiSoft Sandra, etc) my system is almost always within 5% of the performance of a DDR system, except memory bandwidth where the performance difference is ~10%. The P4 is known to lose 20% performance with SDRAM. Again, this isn't flame bait, it's a fact.

just tested my new system (P4 2A northy...256 pc2700)... and i got 8403 on 3dmark2k1.
nothing is overclocked...ill post a link later...
when i overclock my R8500 to 285/290...i get about 8600...the cpu is still at stock speeds...
im getting close to that 9000 3dmarks....
ill call it a night and work on this later...thanx for your responses AMD_Man

I benchmarked the new drivers for my PC, and I went from about 6900 to 7100 with the new drivers. Could have improved it more by using a few suggestions on getting the most out of a video card, but I wanted a more realistic game performance. BTW, I use Triple Buffering, so that might make a small difference.
pc: 1.2 gig Tbird
512 ram DDR 2100
biostar motherboard
It's pretty cool running Quake 3 with all options on high, Antistrpic filtering on 16x and anti-aliasing on 6x... though I'm not sure how to get a framerate for that, if anyone could tell me, I'd apreciate that.

Come on i support ATI but geforce 4 will kill 8500 XT.The only chance that ATI have is the rumor of 1.5 performance is true.

When did I say a Radeon 8500 will be better than a GeForce4? I never said that. I still don't believe it will "kill it" however. There's just seems to be too little improvements in the GF4 to make it appear as a revolutionary new core. It's not! It seems to me as merely a tweaked and overclocked GF3. So an R8500XT might beat it if it's clocked high enough.

The gf 2 was not a revolutionary improvement over the gf1, Nvidia seems to be following their pattern. <new core>/<refine new core>/ <new core>/ <refine new core>

Yes, I agree. And seeing how nVidia releases a new graphics chip every 6 months, it's a good thing they don't release a "revolutionary" new design every 6 months or we'll all be crying about our obsolete expensive cards.

I installed them too. They did allowm me to have more aggressive system memory settings and allowed me to clock the radeon engine clock to 300 Mhz, hence increasing my scores. I havent crashed the computer yet with these drivers, whereas with 6018, I was crashing it pretty frequently (while running 3Dmark2001).
