First of all, this is my comp :
Tbird 1.4
Asus A7A266 (updated the AGP to newest Ali driver)
256 Kingmax PC2700
Windows 98se
GeForce 3 Ti200
Dets 23.11

I exchanged my faulty Geforce 2 Pro yesterday and got the Ge3 in return. As you can Imagine I was very happy. I got home after work and started playing with my new toy, I started oc'ing it and got it very stable at 225/500. I was running 3dMarks 2001 and everything was going along beautifully. I tried upping it to 230/510 and it froze during Dragothic high detail. I restarted and lowered the core/mem back to 225/500 (which was supposed to be rock-solid). I then got typical "your ram speed is to high" image problems. I was puzzled. I lowered the settings again to somewhere near 200/450 and tried benching again. This time I got a core freeze at the end of "Nature".

I restarted my comp again and reset the values to stock, I tried loading 3DMarks 2001 and wsurprisingly the red screen that announces the stage loading didnt appear, instead I got a black screen. The bench started a few seconds afterwards and I could see I had major "you're ram speed is too high" issues. I called it a night and left it alone. Today I called the shop where I bought the video card and they told me to bring in the card for testing along with my comp. When I got there, the tech installed my card into one of his computers and I watched 3d Marks2001 run smoothly without a glitch. I then asked him to try the card on my system. He did and when we tried running 3dMarks2001 I got the ram problems again...

The video card is obviously feeling well, its another component in my system that is on crack. My system displays MAJOR video issues with : RTCW, 3dMarks2001, Sacrifice, Quake 3 arena and Descent 3. On the Other hand it will run Couterstrike, Broodwar and play the view movies I have without a glitch (well just a minor glitch which I call the "Tickle me Elmo" syndrom). Oh btw I used NVsomething to tweak my card (i'll update with the right name when I get home).

I tried re-installing the Dets, re-installing windows and re-installing 3dMarks to no avail. The next step I am going to take is to format and do a new install from scratch. That would rule out any file corruption options.

I would really appreciate any advice, tips or pointers that would help me find and replace the faulty component(s) in my system.

I'll recommend what everyone else seems to recommend. Yank out all non-essential hardware (soundcard, ethernet, etc.) and try the benchmark with default speeds (no overclocking). Then add the components back one at a time until you find the offending hardware.

Also, you may want to try differnet Det drivers. Some have experienced problems with the 23.11. Although, I don't think this is the problem with Win98SE because that's the OS I use and I have the 23.11 driver.

I thought overclocking only affected your peripherals if you raised your FSB? I only tweaked the card's memory and core by using some software that only affected the vid card. I'll try your suggestion anyways just to make sure :) .

Everything runs find according to dxdiag :(

O yes and btw I used NVmax to tweak my card (if that's of any use to know).
