Ok, this seems a common problem with geforce's, but here's mine...
I have an Athlon 1.13Gig, with a Jetway 867(Via KT266 chipset) 256mb DDR and a 64mb Geforce2 MX200, and it's a nightmare. At first it would randomly hang in windows, particularly with Winamp. On rare occasions it would reboot. Now, it seems everything in windows is fine, Winamp is no problem, and generally seems fine. But occasionally, running games (SOF, RTCW and Max Payne are the main culprits) it will hang in the actual game. I will be able to move around for a few seconds, then it will hang. I have replaced the motherboard so far, and I have reinstalled Windows umpteen times (98, 2000 and XP) and it makes no difference. I suspect graphics card, because if I use a game and the system hangs, upon a reset I can guarantee that the game will once again hang after the reboot, but if i reboot, reinstall the graphics drivers, reboot again and run the game, it will work, no problem. Also, when one of these hangs occurs, on reset the BIOS will beep numerous times, and the display will not come on, but moving the graphics card slightly and resetting again normally cures this.

Thoughts???

I'd never thought of that, and although i'm technically stupid, i've gotta 300w thing if that means anything(i decided not to opt for the 250w). Long ago i started to suspect that the graphics card may be faulty, because after these reboots, it sometimes boots, the monitor powers up, but nothing is on screen from the point that i release the reset button. Basically it's blank from the BIOS checks through to when windows loads.

Also, when i first got the card, the fan seemed noisy. I never paid much attention to it, until it got worse, and i discovered some of the fins on the fan were missing, so i've replaced that, but could the chip have overheated and kill itself?

I've also noticed a few problems loading games, usually SOF, where the game will hang before I even get to the menu's. I am able to ctrl-alt-del and close the application, and after running dxdiag, it comes up with some error related to sound. Where again, a reboot sorts this out.

This is very intermittent, and i usually get a range of problems with it, usually stress, and long strings of explicit abuse.

Basically, so far, god knows how many different drivers i've installed, how many times windows has been reinstalled, or how many times FDISK/FORMAT C: has been used. Should I just take my axe to it?

If I got £1 for every reboot i have done........

Also, i've just discovered having a 300W PSU is essential for 3D cards, so, is this true? I've got only got 1 HD and a CD-ROM drive and floppy which never gets used. I've got 300W, but the info I read insinuated that 300W is a minimal for 3d gaming. Is this true? or am i being filled full of shite?

300W should be enough, but you don't want to get any lower, but in some cases you need to have a 350W or higher PSU, maybe you can borrow an 350+ PSU somewhere and test if that solves the problem.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground   .

It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it! Seriously, not all power supplies are created equally, some (quality) 250 watt units can provide as much power as some (cheap) 350 watt units!

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

I've just invested in a geforce2 ti asus v7700, and i dunno if the problems cured yet.. the computer has crashed twice so far, but not the same symptoms as before, and i've stuck win2k on it. I dunno if it's cured, but if not, i'm starting to think maybe it's the m/board chipset or the power supply. It is a cheapy supply, i think, but i'm not sure thats it because i've got no extra hardware in it. just cd-rom, hd, graphics card and floppy. No extra fans or anything. I have noticed on the box for my new graphics card that it says that it shouldn't be used with a m/board which which has an agp linear regulator. i've looked in my m/board manual and i do not know what the hell this is, or whether my m/board has it. any clues?

On another note, i've been messing on overclocking the graphics card and i've been running it at full whack (memory and core) and although i haven't any benchmark programs to test it, i've been playing all of my games without any problems and the temperature raises to about 44/45c when playing. normally about 40c when not doing anything. is it a safe temperature.
