Hey. How would a Duron 800, 256mb ram, and a GF3 Ti200 go in games? And for that matter how would it go full stop? Im deciding between upgrading the CPU to a duron 1.2 gig(Which IMO is a waste of time, may as well save up for a XP processor), and a GF2 ti, or just a GF3 ti200. Opinions/ Suggestions?

I currently have a Sl-KAV-X 75 MB, Tnt2 m64 32mb, Duron 800, and 256mb ram

Both video cards would give your Duron a huge boost compared to that Tnt2 M64.

However, the Geforce3's do best with the improved memory bandwidth of a DDR motherboard. Paired with an SDRAM motherboard and a Duron they can actually lose performance compaired to even a Geforce 2 GTS. At least, that was an indicated in this upgrade article at www.aceshardware.com</A>.

Just upgrading the Duron won't do much for you. That TNT2 M64 will hold you back. Buying the Geforce3 Ti200 will get you a lot more performance but is not optimal with a Duron 800 and SDRAM (but it would be a benefit if you upgrade the rest of the system later). A Geforce2 Ti lacks the advanced features of the Geforce3, but if Aceshardware's information is correct, it may perform better on your system.

I think you can get both a Duron 1.2 and Geforce2 Ti for about the same money as a Geforce3 Ti200. That's something to think about.

Personally, I don't think it's worth spending lots of money on upgrades for that system. (By the way, you stated you have a "Sl-KAV-X 75 MB". Did you mean a Soltek SL-75KV-X with Via KT133 chipset)?

You can just about triple your game framerates with a card like Visiontek's Geforce2 GTS-V which is only $49 at www.newegg.com</A>. It's no speed demon but it's cheap, will greatly improve your games, and will buy you some time. Later you can sell or give away your system and build a better one with whatever CPU and flavor of nVidia graphics you want.

Update:
Just realized you are from New Zealand. I don't know if the cheap GTS-V cards are available in your country. For reference, I mentioned the card is about $49 here (which is USA). That's about 118 NZD. Geforce2 TI's OEM are as cheap as $80 (192 NZD). Duron 1.2 OEM about $66 (158 NZD). Geforce3 Ti200 OEM for as low as $135 (324 NZD).

I think you would get better performance if you upgrade your CPU instead of your video. I'm running a PIII600 at 800Mhz and a Gainward GF3 Powerpack!!! (245core/575mem)and it will do 128FPS in Q3 "fastest settings"

Before I had a Gainward GF2MX400 (240core/240mem) and it also ran 128FPS in fastest settings.

Only above 800x600 will the GF3 run faster than my MX, espcially running FSAA 4X.

3DMark2001 - 2968 for the MX vs 5222 for the GF3

I installed my GF3 in my friends 2.0Ghz P4 and it does 250+fps in Q3 fastest... go figure
