I have just bought a new motherboard as a start to upgrading my system, an Elite K7S5A with AMI Bios.
On boot up the board beeps two rapid beeps, then 8 beeps, then after a long pause (10 secs) a further 2 beeps then 1 beep. The monitor says no signal.

All I can find out from AMI.COM suggests a video card problem. When I reassemble all components eg CPU, Graphics card onto old board it all works fine.

The graphics card I have was new with my computer 18 months ago. It is a generic 3D Power GeForce 2 MX 32Mb TV Out.

I have 256Mb DDR new with my new motherboard, but have tried 128 Mb SDRAM instead (it can take either but not at same time) so I don't think it can be a memory problem

Could this graphics card be inconmpatible with my motherboard ? Should I just go out and but a new graphics card ?

Any suggestions welcomed

Thanks

Kevin

Is your video card agp, pci? Does it support 2x, 4x? give us some more info.

I have some details about my graphic card, from the Control
Panel-Display-Settings:

Graphics Processor NVIDIA NV11
Bus Type AGP
Bios Version 3.11.00.04
On Board 32MB
IRQ 11
TV Encoder Type Brooktree 869

From elsewhere it starte the card to be a Nvidia GeForce 2MX
Frpm the receipt listing components of my PC It is listed as a 3dPower Geforce 2 MX 32MB. I cannot access the website 3Dpower.com as I understand from Nvidia that support should be found with the manufacturer (3Dpower)

No idea why it doesn't work with my new motherboard, the Elite K7S5A
My previous motherboard was a Biostar M7VKB if that helps. I know the new Elite Motherboard will support AGP X4.

Hope this helps

You sure that you pushed it in deep enough, with some boards the AGP card has to be pushed in really deep, and check if resetting your BIOS works.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground   .

Thanks, but I can push it in no further, the metal plate screws to the chassis of the case and it is fully pushed in.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS, and if there are onboard jumpers on your videocard or motherboard then check if they are set right.
