I am currently running an Athlon 850 mhz with 196 megs of ram. I am thinking of buying a Geforce 3 ti-200, is my processor powerfull enough for me to appreciate the Geforce 3 ti-200? Or should I consider upgrading my CPU...or perhaps you would recommend a different card?

Thanks alot!

I asked a similair question here a while ago (regarding a geforce 3 and an AMD 500Mhz) The 'expert' said that the framerate in my games would be no different. I said "well I'll buy the card anyway and prove you wrong" (paraphrased) He was SO SURE he was right. I bought the card - the framerate in my games TRIPPLED! in EVERY game.

So, getting the geforce WILL improve your game performance, but to read your question more strictly - a better processor would make things (even) better.

A different card, well, is money an object? if it is not, I would not reccomend a different card. If it is - apparently the radeon cards are cheaper and still have the Hardware Transform and Lighting (which is VITAL to see the improvement I saw. a card without hwt&l will give you no improvement in performance at all)

IN short - get the card!

If you are willing to spend an extra $20 then get a Radeon 8500 for $175 it competes with the Ti500 without overclocking(like you will have to do with the TI200). But if you go with the Radeon, remember to update your drivers frequently as they are improving. You can pick up a Radeon 8500 for $175 here .

Hey all. Well I`ve got a similar question. Im lookig to upgrade from a tnt2 m64 to either a GF2 ti, or a GF3 ti200. My Current system is A duron 800, 256mb ram, Sl75-KAV-X mobo. Just wondering is the GF3 going to be worth the extra money for me?
