Problem getting Windows updates

I've seen REAL Firewall appliances that do HTTP session filtering for
download blocking cause that exact type of problem. Are you behind a
firewall that does HTTP session filtering?

You might want to check this site out - it has a number of options

download blocking cause that exact type of problem. Are you behind a
firewall that does HTTP session filtering?

Thanks, Leythos, As far as I can tell so far (just got the laptop today) it
doesn't have a seperate firewall, but evidently one is included in XP, as
the dialup (Bellsouth.net) connection on the control panel shows
"firewalled"

Excuse the top posting, as you said my reply might get snipped. I am doing
this on my regular computer which has Windows Me, and IE6 and OE6. I will
try the Super Gravity Usenet you mentioned. (As you may have guessed, I'm
not very computer savvy).

If you look, your reply is not being posted properly as it's not
removing the sig file in the post you are replying to - which means that
you reply is below the posters -- line, so your reply will be snipped
out when someone replies to you.

It shows that you are using Outlook Express:
X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1478

There are updates on the Microsoft site to fix that.

You could also download and install Super Gravity Usenet client and not
have to use a hacked email client for Usenet access any more

I finally managed to get the SP2 through Windows update. Thanks to all for
