A killer driver is definitely coming from ATI. ATI and Croteam have solved the High Polygon issue that ATI has been having in so many OpenGL games. A temporary workaround can be done for now in Serious Sam (which will significantly raise FPS), but a permanent solution for all games will be available in the next driver release. Very nice, have you tested the workaround?
My main hope is that ATI's next killer card benefits from the work they did on the 8500's drivers, so that it will come out at full strength and without bugs.

No, I don't have Serious Sam, but maybe it'll work with the demo. I'll try it tomorrow. Anyway, with this fix, the R8500 has a chance of competing with the Ti4200 and Ti4400.

I doubt it amd_man, honestly, the test toms hardware did looked like the gf4 ti series was DOMINATING everything else, I mean, running with aa on and still being higher than a ti500 with no aa....damn.

Aw, let them live in their fantasy world..whatever makes em happy:)  AMD, do remember that GF4 is yet to have super 1000% optimized drivers which NVidia does tend to release......

I never said the Ti4600 and I never said anything about AA. The GF4 is THE FSAA KING! The R8500 may, however, match Ti4200 to Ti4400 in non-AA performance. The R8500's supersampling Smoothvision is slow in comparison to the GF4's FSAA.

ATI is going to improve performance through a bug-fix not optimization. The ATI drivers are far from being completely optimized yet. The high polygon count bug is a result of a memory leak in the drivers. A simple fix in the driver will improve performance in all the games that are affected quite significantly.
