I know this ain't a hardware question but without the demos in Quake III I can't benhcmark my hardware specifically my videocard. I installed the latest point release which is 131 i think but after loading the game the 'demos' were gone! How do I get it back. Thanks to all who can help!

Not saying piss off here. but you would probably get a better response if you asked at the quake3 site. The people in here probably know more about graphics cards than they do about quake3.

which Quake 3 site? official or somewhere here at Tom's forums...anyway thanks..I just thought that these guys use Q3A all the time for benchmarking videocard as it is the definitive game for that task..

I'm sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I like to answer quake 3 questions.
I have version 1.30 of quake, I didn't upgrade to 1.31 since I don't actually play online. Anyways, I think the demo name, at least for version 1.30 is four.dm_66. They tend to change the way they record demos from version to version. Just search for *.dm_*
The problem is that most reviewers use version 1.17 for their benchmarks so you can't get an exact comparison, but it's good enough. Don't forget that they turn off the sound when they benchmark which gives them a little boost in their scores.
Hope this helps.

I still can't find it. I want to know if I can download the demos and copy it to the respective folder inside Quake 3 folder. Applying the patch must've deleted it or something. anyway thanks to those who helped

try typing "dir demos" in quake console, sometimes the files are not visible but rather compressed in the pk3 file.

I also did that, and after typing the respectful demo command, it returns to the menu and no demos appear in the Demo option.
What else? IT seems 1.31 doesn't work!

I must get the 1.31 version to check it out. But why would they take out such an integral part of comparison such as a standard demo?
February 18, 2002 7:08:01 PM

maybe what they had in mind was most ppl buying Q3A will play it and never care to benchmark it...prolly forgot to
include it..imma try that dir thing and if it's compressed inside some pak file we need to find a way to extract...the help is really appreciated!

Hmmm I think WinAce was able to read .paks AFAIK. Try it and tell me.

Eden is right, winzip, winace or anything. It also gives you the right path for every file. Adding a file is hell btw.
