I am currently running an old savage2k board (viper2!) board and am wanting (needing) the radeon 8500. Problem is that i don't have counterstrike yet and would like to get it since it is included in the retail package of the 8500. My question is that, do any of the white boxed versions or oem version of the card come with the retail included games? i'm sure this is a far cry, because they cut those features (goodies) out to save the costs, but i'm thinking of just getting the retail version, to save me the greif of possibly getting a lower clocked 8500, which i've read elsewhere that some people did get when buying oem 8500s... suggestions anyone?

I think your chances of getting ANY game with an OEM card are 0 to none. Just buy the Retail version, you'll get the higher clock speeds, and a nice warranty as well.

how bad is the oem compared to the retail? I thought only the mem and the core clock. And I read that now the LE can be oced to the same clock as the retail one. btw, is it true that the 8500 cannot work with mb using 645 chipset?

OEM cards typically do not include the DVI to SVGA adapter for output two, one or both of the TV-Out cables, or the additional software. Some also include slower memory, and all are clocked slower (even ones with the fast memory).

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

The Retail is clocked 10% faster than the OEM version, and performs somewhere between 5-10% better. You will get an S-video cable with the OEM, unless that has changed since I got mine back in December.

Forgive my ignorace, but why do they underclock OEM's, and do they do that with all cards? or just ATI?

ATI is more known for underclocking OEM cards, but there are a few other cards, such as the Visiontek GeForce2 GTS-V, which are also underclocked.

Go Buy the Radeon 8500 OEM for $200 and buy CS for $30. Still cheaper then the Retail.

Then OC to retail :D

well if you live in the US you should be able to get the retail for about $160+ shipping. on ratio people have less problems with oem cards out of the box then retail. and thats a good thing since you have no support.
