Hello everybody.

It seems that nVidia released its GF4 too early...
The GF4 GPU is very unstable : more you play with, more it become unstable!! It seems that after a long period of testing, the chip is getting hotter and hotter, thus making the chip more and more unstable.
nVidia is working hard on this issue, but nearly all GF4 card out there are going to be recalled !! Their should be replaced with new card, empty of this bug.
Nvidia want don't revel this news... I know this from someone working for a compagny which has some kind of relations with nVidia... But i will not tell you who he is or what is the name of that compagny, to protect them.
Damn, just look how those GF4 GPU are getting hotter and hotter when you are playing...

Little advice : don't buy a GF4 card until nVidia fixed this bug !! (in 3 month may be) or simply buy something else !!

No way, I find that hard to believe! Do you have a link?

"(in 3 month may be)" R u an idiot? A company like NVidia will not dily daly for 3 months, they'll just stick a better hsf on it, if this is even true. I have not heard other claims if this, please support your stance with evidence.

If this is true then maybe Nvidia wil be in serious trouble! Perhaps 3dfx will arise from inside of the Nvidia company and re capture the market with their fine line of voodoo2s.Then I wouldnt be out of date! Not likely tho.

I find your post very hard to believe. If the GPUs were overheating, this would most likely be the fault of the card manufacturers, not nVidia. Also, I find it highly doubtful that something so easy to catch would slip through testing.

OMG! I didn't know that - now I'm not going to buy a GF4 anymore but XXXX...

Really? - so far no website reported anything unusual with the GF4 - and I believe they have tested them to death. All in nVidias pocket? Not very likely - they are too many...

I wouldn't believe him, this seems like a post to trash NVidia, I mean honestly, who teh fvck doesn't test their cards beforehand...I know a few testers for NVidia, and they go all out on them. BS, that's what I think that post was.

I don't put too much stock on the post either, but then there is nothing unusual about having problem with the first run on any chipset!

it happen to intel, it happen to Sony ps2! so I am sure it can happen to Nvidia easily, afterall, I don't think they beta test or release it oversea first to iron out all the bug!
February 19, 2002 5:25:39 PM

PS2 overheated at first? Hmm, thanks for that tidbit of info.

Dont be such a ass that you might be!
I am talking about bug in general and not just "overheat" as in this case!

why? Don't you think that this Taiwan company is capble of making mistake, of having error in their programming!

oh wait, I am sorry, you do "own" a Nvidia graphic card! I guess they must be "perfect" too!
February 19, 2002 7:51:56 PM

Calm down. He just didn't know that the PS2 had problems when it first released. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

problem for computer hardware is normal, but overheat is hard to believe. I believe the card manufacturer did lots of testing b4 they ship their card. If it has software problem, then it is really normal, and it could be fixed within 1 month (I hope)
February 20, 2002 2:39:43 PM

Even if there are problems with the GF4, this post would probably be bogus. Heat depends upon the frequency - and there are 2 models of the GF4 being released. Now, if there were problems, the 4600 would be particularly hit by them, and the 4400 not so much (if any) - not "almost all GF4 will be recalled" or something like that. If he had said that some/a lot/most GF4 4600 have overheating problems, it would have been be more believable.

Also, if overheating is a major issue the postponed slower and cheaper 4200 would be the first to be launched, as it has the lower operating frequencies - giving time to nVidia to solve the problem.

If it was a driver issue that had the potential to cause a recall, nVidia would have it fixed within a week.

Agree - AFAIK a bug in a (software) driver has never caused a hardware recall - sometimes it even can prevent it (partially). And God knows we've seen bugged software and drivers...

there is nothing wrong with geforce 4 GPUs, they even have flavours coming out that have passive coolers on the GPU, and no ram sinks either. One thing these GPUs might actually have though is a nice thermal compund under the heat sink, instead of nothing underneath like previous geforce cards of the past.
