Well at least they will sell them soon but that's FutureCrap.
Expect below 600$ prices anywhere else but those guys. MSI is also known for low GF prices so this should be good. RB Comp is selling Leadtek GF4 MX 440s at 230$. Not worthy really but I wonder how the Ti4200 will price then.

Leadtek GF4 MX 440s at 230$

sounds like a ripoff when it comes too price/proformace ratio.

THGC, saving 1 pc user from buying a GeForce4 MX at a time.

$230CDN! That's a little less than $150 USD.

Remember that the GF4MX is the NV17 core, not the NV25 like the GF4Tis.

Yes, but if you are a casual player and can do without pixel shaders the Geforce4 MX440's are as cheap as $105 USD at newegg.com.

A low-end card that can produce decent performance at 1024x768, 32-bit, FSAA (AA Quincunx) is a bargain in my book.

I would buy one if the price dropped below $100 USD ($90 is about my price point).

over $600, it is too expensive for me. I could buy a basic system at that price. What do you guys think?
February 20, 2002 5:39:38 PM

That's under $400 USD but I still agree. High end gaming cards have become very expensive relative to system prices.

Agreed! I bought my R8500 for nearly $300CDN less.

No, it's not under $400USD. It's actually just over $400USD. It's normal to see Future Shop selling stuff overpriced.

According to my sources $600 CAD currently converts to $377.24 USD.

First of all, I was referring to the $650 CDN price tag. Secondly, I wasn't aware the Canadian dollar is down so much now. The US dollar is nearly 1.6X more than the Canadian dollar now!! DAMN RECESSION!!! STUPID BIN LADEN!!

LOL, yeah blame the bearded terrorist!!

Anyway today I looked in the newspaper and I was in awe when I saw this jawdropping offer for us Canadians, in which I wonder at Futureshop's sometimes nice offers: THE RAD 8500 RETAIL IS 329$ WITH 120$ REBATE!!!!!!!!!'
Holy shlamola, that is one nice tag, same as Ti200s with Deluxe Asus!!!! If I had this rebate offered to me, I would definitly buy it even though it is a tad more. I mean Rad 8500 at GF3 Ti200 prices in Canada, how more generous is that!!

BTW have the rumors of Rad8500 incompatibilities with VIA-AXPs been dropped and new drivers for support are now available?

It's true. It's common knowledge that the terrorist attacks lead to a recession especially prominent in the U.S. and Canada. Canada seems to be taking the great blow on it's economy for some reason. Just looking at the U.S. and Canadian stock market right now proves that there's a recession.

Hmm, let's not forget that you're paying tax on the $450 not the $330. Either way that's amazing! Nearly $40 Canadian lower than what I bought.

Nahh, it's a false rumour. I don't have an AXP but my Athlon + VIA KT133A (for now) has no problems.

But I would think that a Ti200 or 7500 would outperform it, and they have the extra features. Agreed, probably decent performance for the price. But there are other cards that offer better performance for the price.
(Oh, and the Ti200 will most likely come down to close to $100, which is why I threw that in).

Last time I looked the a Geforce3 Ti200 was aroun $140 but no matter. If what you say is true I will go along with it.

I really feel that $100 is a very important price point for most casual gamers. The upcoming release of the full-fledged Geforce4's and the recent price reductions of the Radeon 8500 and others are upsetting the previous balance. Some cards are disproportionately expensive. Geforce2 MX-400, Geforce256 DDR, Geforce2 Ultra are a few examples. Why by these when a GTS-V is $49, a Geforce2 Ti450 is $87, a Geforce4 MX440 is $105. (OK, the Geforce2 Ultra is closer in performance to the MX460)

The rumors I've read indicated that the old Geforce lines, (2 and 3) will all be phased out all at once, leaving only the Geforce4 MX and Geforce4 Ti lines. Everyone should scoop up whatever bargains become available before this happens.

The GF3s are supposed to be phased out rather quickly, according to reports I read a couple weeks ago (can't remember where, but I think it was pretty reliable), but the GF2 line is still very versatile and probably won't disappear completely. The GF4MXs can take over for the GF3s, to a certain extent.

And if the Ti200 comes down in price like it should when the GF4Tis come out, then it'll probably be closer to $100. That's what I meant, sorry if that wasn't clear.

I got what you mean, and I'd take a Geforce3 Ti200 over a Geforce4 MX440 if both were at the same price. However, at different prices points the choice is less clear. One interesting note, <A HREF="http://www.digit-life.com/articles/gf4mx/index.html" target="_new">this review at digitlife</A> mentions that the MSI Geforce4 MX440 tested has 4ns memory. If they ship with that memory they should overclock from the stock 400mhz to 500mhz pretty easily.

Yeup, that's exactly my feeling.

Hey, it's true of anything. Same price then take the extra features.

I personally still don't even need a Geforce3. By the time a significant number of games, say 10%, actually need DirectX 8.0 features (as opposed to being optional) then the current crop of video cards won't be what we will be turning to. We'll be looking at Geforce 5's and Radeon 10K's or whatever.

What's nice to think is that the GF4s bring no new DirectX support or new engines really, thus buying a GF3 Ti200 over GF4MX or any GF4 for that matter will not affect the future! I find that nice we're not missing out on a lot.
