Erm... this might sound dumb... but: why is Windows Media player soooo
rubish!?

I've had all sorts of problems with every single version I've used.

The most common one: it comes across a file it can't handles and
decides to die (crash).

Other 3rd party media players seem to be able to cope easily.

And why does it not come loaded with the most common video codecs!!??

The standard video codec's are proprietary and must be purchased. Not many
people play DVD movies on their computer so why saddle them with an extra
expense that they don't need? If you want DVD movie capabilities buy
PowerDVD or a similar program.

I happen to like it though sometime I prefer JetAudio for some of the
additional features.

jetAudio Basic download and review - multimedia player from SnapFiles:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/jetaudio.html

The price for the full version is easily justified by it's burning
capabilities and ease of use. A basic player is provided by Microsoft - that
is all it is. You don't expect professional graphics artists to use Paint?
Audiophiles will not settle for WMP either. As for the various bugs you'd
have to be more specific as to the errors you're getting and using a WMP
group might be the best place for that.

It seems to be fashionable to knock WMP. In my experience, it doesn't
fail any more frequently than other players, and perhaps less. I can't
really comment much on the repeated claim that is is bloated, but,
unless this "bloat" actually interferes with what you're doing, where's
the problem?
