The hotfix KB896344 downloaded by Windows Update introduces a bug into the
Files And Settings Transfer Wizard running under Windows XP SP2 Home
edition. This hotfix is to enable transfers from 32 bit to 64 bit systems.
The bug manifests itself by an error message, when collecting the data from
the source system, saying that it is unable to copy a ntuser.dat file.

This is another example of MS incompetence, has anyone a resolution.
