Hello,
I just recently got a 8500 card with 64MB ram. Now when comparing my benchmarks to Tom's Hardware ones (and other website benchmarks) I got rather poor results. I am running an Intel 1.8Ghz (Asus P4T) system with XP, exact system that Tom's been using for his recent radeon and geforce benchmarks.
For instance (all 1024x768 tests) in Quake3 I get like 160fps while Tom is getting 190+fps. I significant difference. And a real shocker is the 3dmark2001 benchmarks---> I get around 6400 to 6500 each time, and Tom is getting 8500 to 9000!!! Anyone have any clue??? I've tried old and new drivers, and I got all the updated stuff for everything...so I'm not sure why it is doing this...and both the speeds on the card are at 275Mhz already...please help me out if you got an idea...appreciated...

Later,
Tom

Sounds like a driver conflict. You had an nVidia card before, didn't you?

I'm going to have that problem if I upgrade to an 8500 aren't I?
What's the best way to remove NVidia drivers?

I'm seriously not sure for Windows XP. Detonator Destroyer isn't compatible with XP. The easiest thing to do would be to reformat and reinstall WIndows.

Detonator Destroyer for Win9X/ME, and reformat for Win2K/XP, sorry.

Awwww, reinstall. The time it takes to format and reinstall dosen't bother me, it's getting all the little details just the way I like them. I just know I'm going to lose links, forget passwords, and spend hours remembering how to set up all the little scripts I use.

If you use WinXP, then backing up all that stuff is a piece of cake:

Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Where is the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard?

Guess what? I'm back, and reformatted & reinstalled with Win98 now...and I still get sub par benchmarks...maybe I have a defective 8500! :)  I don't know how to explain it, funny thing is that my 640x480 scores can't even get up there to the posted 1024 benchmarks...16bit nope can't do it either...I try the lowest possible quality settings and I get up to about 175 fps in quake3 at 640 res with the lowest settings (even low sound)...while I see all the posted benchmarks at like 190fps with the high quality settings at 1024....ARGHHH!!! And it's all the same, same motherboard (asus p4t), same video card (Radeon 8500), same cpu (1.7 o/c to 1.8Ghz)...ARRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

Later...I'll keep picking away at it....

Did you get an oem or LE version of the R8500?

Naw man...it's the full retail version...it just says Radeon 8500 on the front...does the LE have "LE" in big block letters on the front? If it does then, I forsure have the basic 8500 b/c I don't see LE anywhere...its a piss off...

Retail versions have a clock speed of 275/275mhz, Oem is 250/250, and LE is 230/230. (Most of the time)

I wish I knew where you could find a proggie to to measure that.

Actually I do know that it is 275/275 b/c I checked it with powerstrip...that program will tell you...doesn't help my case though...
