K, I don't have a lot of cash to blow on a super duper gfx card, yet i still want decent performance from a decent gfx card.(preferably under $100 US) which card should I look for? The MX400's, the Radeon 7200, or the Kyro II?

For $49 (at Newegg) you can get the Visiontek Xtasy 5632 Geforce2 GTS-V, faster than a Geforce2 MX400. At $87 the Gainward Geforce2 Ti450 is much faster. At $108 the Gainward Geforce4 MX440 is extremely fast for a budget card (but still lacks pixel shaders).

How cheap can you find a Radeon LE? Listed as low as $40 on Pricewatch. Get one, overclock it to retail spec, and enable Hyper-Z. That will waste any MX card. If you find you need a fan to overclock it, you'll still be cheap.

In fact, many people have loaded their Radeon LE with Retail BIOS so that they don't have to manually overclock or manually enable Hyper-Z.

Next up is the Radeon 7500 for $77 on Pricewatch. It's basically the same chip, but running faster memory and higher clock rates, with Hyper-Z already enabled. It's about twice the card of the MX400.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

if its is GF2 MX200/400 level, dont rule out out Kyro2 (unless U want the T&L engine)

4 a bit more dosh, a Radeon7000 is fairly cheap now but I would vote 2 get a GF2 Pro/Ti type card if good price can B found...

---If at first you dont succeed... get a bigger hammer... that'll teach it !!!---

Check out the recent prices on a Geforce3 ti200. They are going for around $130 or less on www.pricewatch.com I wouldn't waste my money on a MX series geforce card unless you can get it really cheap! Also the radeon 8500 cards are getting down around the same price.

I ain't got time to bleed!
