First the basics: running XP w/SP2 and Windows Media Player 10, although the
problem also occurs with WMP 9.
The issue is this: when trying to open an AVI file from a web page on our
Intranet, the file gets download to the Temporary Internet Files folder and
then tries to run. We get sound but no video.
There is one file that will work, and the only difference i can see is the
one that works has a data rate if 18kbs. The others are higher...above 20kbs.
The other ODD thing is that you can see the .avi in the Temporary Internet
Files folder, and if you copy it to any other location, it will work fine.
My question is two fold, I guess. One, is it possible that the higher data
rates would stop the file from launching when selected from IE.
The other is what is it about that Temporary Interne Files folder that stop
the .AVi from running properly until you move it out of there?
I know that SP2 has tightened up lots of security settings, but it is very
annoying.
