I was wondering how the radeon 8500 stacks up against the geforce4's image quality? I am not concerned about frame rates since I have confidence in the r8500's frame's and bang/buck, but I was just curious as to whether the radeon can compete visually with the geforce4? I'm pretty sure I've heard people say it beats out the geforce3.. but I don't know very much about T&L and other features on the card versus the Geforce4 Features. One thing which comes to mind is in the recent maximum PC issue it shows a picture from comanche4 where the helicopter blades are leaving a visible washback in the water below.. a feature apparently specific to only geforce4 cards. Does the Radeon miss out on much?

Well, in terms of RAMDAC image quality, I would say both are about equal. In terms of image quality related features, the R8500 supports the 1.4 Pixel Shader spec of DX8.1 and Truform, which the GF4, does not. So in that respect, the R8500 is superior. The R8500 also has superior looking FSAA due to supersampling nature, but at the cost of performance.
