I'm not a big fan of buying new graphics cards because too much of the time games don't support their features at first. And when the games start to support their features the prices for the cards drops. Is there that much of a different in games that are out now? I have a 1.4ghz (266)Athlon , ASUS A7M266 MoBo, with 512DDR RAM and a Radeon 64DDR VIVO. Is getting a GForce 3/4 or Radeon 8500 going to show that much of a different running games at 1600x1200 on a 19" monitor from 1999?

my advice would be to get a GF3 Ti500. it defitnitly out performs your radeon 64 ddr AT HIGH resolution, that is anything above 1024x768. it will outperform your card at low resolution also by a fair bit.
eg Q3 at 1024x768x16 at 50fps -----Radeon 64 DDR
Q3 at 1024x768x16 at 100fps -----GF3 Ti500
Q3 at 1600x1200x16 at 50fps -----GF3 Ti500
Q3 at 1600x1200x16 at unplayable-----Radeon 64 DDR ...etc
these just wat i predict how these card will perform i dont own them so i woudn't know if the results are precise
u can check out tom's guide for benchmarks on these card and see for your self

I don't think its enough of an increase to justify a new card. I'm currently playing Medal of Honor @ 1600x1200x32 and I get no slow down or anything. And if I remember correctly Medal of Honar runs on the Quake III engine. I find it hard to believe spending $300/$400 will have that much of a difference.

What happened to 32-bit colour? Anyway, your predictions are 2 to 3 times slower than the actual performance you'd get with those cards.
