Disk Partitioning

I got a new HP laptop with a 40 GB hard disk running win XP home edition (file system NTFS). how to convert the hard disk into multiple partitions without loosing Windows or any of the installed software ?

I've used partition magic with much success. Many times have I set up a store bought computer and partitioned using this tool. BTW check your private messages .
