Hi all, I remember reading somewhere that there will be a price drop in the near future for the Geforce2 / Geforce 3 range of cards. I'm wanting to get a Geforce 3 Ti 200 soon but don't know if i should wait for a price drop.

Also, could someone draw up a really simple table matching graphics cards with processors. e.g.

Card(s) | CPU(s)
--------------------------------------------------
tnt2 32mb | Atari 2600
Geforce2 mx200 | Commodore 64

Etc :)

Kudos to the clerks at the store who gave me the card for $149.....they said that it should retail for $199, and that the on-line price was only for on-line purchases .....imagine that; on-line retailers think people will actually pay tax and shipping.......won't these corporate dopes ever learn! Then again, I saw a lot of stupid people buying other items there (maybe their strategy really can work - i.e. P.T. Barnum).....I really wanted to slap them all.....don't these idiots use the internet?? AOL does allow its users to go there, doesn't it  ?!?).Thanks again to the clerks.

Hey guys, I'm building a new system and for the graphics card i want a GeForce 3 Ti500, but i dont want to pay more than, say, $200 bucks for it. How long will i have to wait? Will there be a significant price drop within a month or so? How bout $250, is that more realistic?(considering i want to buy it within a month) Im looking at any of the major brands, no real preference, but would prefer the one with the best OC'ing capability.

its not that intel CANT make a good processor, its that they just dont try

Get a R8500 for $160 now. It's cheaper and faster than the Ti500 with the latest drivers.

go to www.pricewatch.com and you can probably find some Ti500s around the $250 range.
The ATI 8500 also isn't a bad way to go if you don't mind iffy driver support.

I doubt it's still here. The new ones AMD_Man talked about, seem to be so stable and have massively improved OpenGL support. I knew that the speed the Radeon8500 had, plus the texturing units passed per cycle had to give more than what we first saw. It's true indeed, it wasn't meant to fight off a Ti500, just at a competitive early stage. But once GF4 is out, they used competition again to top its drivers to Ti4200 speeds or so. Can't wait for THG benchs!

Unfortunately, the drivers with the OpenGL fix are only avialable for Win9X/Me. The Win2K/XP 6037 don't seem to have the fix yet. However, I doubt it will take more than a week for an updated WinXP driver to come along.
