So, what are the differences between these to...I can upgrade from my TI to the MX-440 for $30. Is that worth it?

Note - I use SVideo out, does the MX-440 have this?

Thank you.

The GeForce2 Ti is probably faster than the GF4 MX440, simply because it has the full GeFroce2 core with 4 pipelines, instead of a modified MX core with only 2.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Actually, according to most reviews, they're about the same in performance.

On this here site it shows that the MX440 is faster FPS wise, but I was wondering if that was true, and / or which one has what feastures vs. the other.

There is one big differecne between the two giving the GeForce4 MX a big advantage "32 bit" color depth on an old geforce 2 will kill framerates while on the GF3 & GF4 Mx's there is little difference. I myself can not go back to 16 bit color depth!!! It is also a little more powerfull due to the 275 MhZ core speed.

There are a few differences between you TI and the new MX 4. First is the clock speed, second is the pipelining, third is AA support.

Raising clock speed almost always raises performance. The pipelining is better and the new AA support is very nice, but it doesn't have any direct x 8 programming support like geforce 3 and geforce 4.

I wouldn't buy the geforce 4 mx, but look at either the geforce 3 ti200....or look at geforce 4 ti4200.....you get the programming pipelines and more speed.

Actually, the MX440 has fewer pipelines than the GF2Ti. What gives the MX440 its speed is LMAII.

I don't think I have seen any head to head comparisons between a Geforce2 Ti and Geforce4 MX.

In raw speed I think the Ti has the advantage, at least for resolutions of 1280x1024 and lower.

If you plan to use or want to use FSAA I think the Geforce4 MX gains back some performance especially at 1024x768 and 1280x1024.

If you want to go higher than 1280x1024 you might need to move up to something more powerful than both cards.

These, of course, are my opinions.

Now, I want put out a couple questions for the group.

I know the Geforce4 MX only has 2 pipelines but these can process 4 textures per clock, each. Can anyone tell me how many textures, per clock, each of the 4 pipelines of the Geforce256, Geforce2 GTS/PRO/ULTRA/Ti, and Geforce3 can process? (My admittedly faulty memory seems to recall these GPUs need two (2) clocks to do 4 textures). Also, what would be the the overall affect on games from these different architectures?

Well, I went ahead and am doing the swap. I cheaked out it's technical specs vs. my old card (TI) and the only thing that ISN'T better is the pixels a sec (300 million less) I hope that isn't too mucha problem.

I'll send a post to tell you guys tomarrow how much it is better or worse.

What do you want to say with: "quite dead"?. Can you be more explicit?? Have you had problems with the installation?
Or you don't like the mx440?

Thanks
