I have Windows XP pro, and i got a virus called PE_Parite.A that won't go away. Norton or PC-cillin can't get rid of it, can't even quartine it. I tried upgrade installation from my xp cd and i tried new installation. Neither worked, virus is still there. I tried to boot from a floppy but as soon as it passes the BIOS it won't let me use the keyboard until windows has finished booting up. I am jsut wondering if you guys have any ideas or is my hard drive toast, and if it is, is there a way to find out if my BIOS has been infected??

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

low level (actually "mid" level") format the hard drive using manufacturer's tools from their website. So if it's maxtor go to maxtor's website look up the hard drive and download (I think it's called) maxblast utility and then low level format. Each manufacturer has thier own utilities. When it's done, install windows and it should be gone.

You have to go to this website to download current tools for IBM drives, since Hitachi now owns the IBM hard drive division.

IBM hdd line has been owned by Hitachi now for quite some time. The Utility is called Drive Fitness Test v3.51 and can be downloaded from here

Not sure what you mean here. I hope you didn't run the test and waste your time but instead chose Erase Disk from the Utilities Menu. And if you did, did it not work??
