RADEON 8500 retail for 139.00 (after rebates)

Here's a heads up that someone else posted down in another thread. I checked the Sunday flyer and it bears out.

Best Buy (and I think COMP USA, but don't have the flyer)is running a rebate sale this week for the RADEON 8500. It goes like this:

299 - $100 (Price drop) - $50 (mail in rebate) - $10 )(instant rebate) = $139. (no rain checks)

If you can deal with the rebate waiting period (and you actually get it;I have had good luck) it is easily the best bang for the buck going in the video card arena right now.

That is a bargain! The really fun will be when games taking advantage of it's specs come out. It seems like this card is on a bit of a roll at the moment.

A heads up! from another post I made..

Hey,

I just filled out my RADEON rebate for I got from Best Buy. I noticed the mail-to zip code is given as 1802-1651. I called the BB rebate center and they confirm that is what is in their database. However, to the best of my knowledge, ALL zip codes are 5 digit(+4 optional). I checked the USPS web site and they give the zip code for New Rochelle as 10802, not 1802. I ended up using 10802-1651.

Use which ever you think is correct, just be sure to think about where it is going first. I dropped BB an email in regard to this. If they say I am wrong (for whatever reason) I'll post back here.

In Serious Sam

For on screen framerates, type "~" then type "/hud_istats=1". Press ESC to return from console mode.

For summary benchmarking, type "~" again. Type "/dem_bprofile=1". Press ESC. Run any of the demos. I like Dunes (which gives maximum framerates), Memphis Suburbs (more polygons), and Kharnak (sp?) Nights (large number of objects). I recommend going into options and running the Add-ons, specifically the Extreme Quality Add-on. FSAA you have to turn on separately if you want to benchmark this. Anisotropic filtering is turned on by default with the addon.

If you have time I'd been interested in seeing your results of both your cards. I'm most interested in 1024x768x32, Anisotropy Off, Dunes and Memphis Suburbs benchmark scores. I'd like to compare against my old Geforce2.

Didn't read the whole thread or I would have known the commands still work with SS2.

Sheesh, 111-116!!! Is that with Extreme Quality?

Thanks for posting the info.

Which OS do you have and which driver? You shoudl be getting quite a bit higher with the 6043/9017 drivers.

hmm, interesting. Do you have benchmarks with any previous driver? Your performance is good but not as high as I would expect with the new drivers. Then again, I'm no ATI developer so I don't know the exact updates.

Don't know. I don't have the SS2. Sounds good to me. I suppose it depends how many sprites, how many polygons, how much texturing is done in the Elephant Cathedral Demo. With Extreme Quality I'd say that's really good non-overclocked videocard, in any case. Yours are the first benchmarks I've seen.

The game must look amazing with the 8500.

If you are using Windows 9x/ME you can use Detonator Destroyer to remove all all the extra nVidia files that the Add/Remove software control panel doesn't remove. Don't know how to do it with the other OS's.

You can get Detonator Destroyer at <A HREF="http://www.guru3d.com" target="_new">www.guru3d.com</A>.
