XP Home User Profile Problem

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support (More info?)

The user profile became a file instead of a folder after a reboot. I
would simply start from scratch except I need the files in my
documents.
Does anyone have any ideas. I have tried system restore and this does
not remedy the situation. I've also tried repairing the registry and
no luck there.
