You realize that the Ti4600 is about $250 more than the R8500 right now right? Wait a week or so 'til we see some reviews of ATI's 128MB Radeon 8500.

i had no idea what the cost was of a ti 4600!! saw the performance and was like, want one!!
but then i live in england all the prices are different over here..
for a gainwood ti 4600 128mbs it costs £380... the ati 8500 costs £205 retail...
is that a good price for them or not? i do have a trade account with a large company for computer parts so i do get them a little cheaper... thats just a rough price guide through a price guide site.. rather handy tho...
which would be the best bang for buck etc? i was thinking 8500, but just one performance ti 4600.... any advances ?? oh lowest price for a ti 4600 was £320 from creative... is that good?

The Ti4600 simply trounces the R8500, so it's up to u. Supposedly teh Quadro 4's are different from the GF4, but a few people I know are working w/ em and finding that the differences aren't real. They are more of placement/ connectors, so maybe if u buy the GF4 u'll also get eh nice option of being able to use it as a Quadro if teh need arrises.

Sig of the week.

Yes, I agree, the GF4Ti4600 is quite a bit faster than the R8500 simply because it's clocked faster. In specs, the R8500 should match the GF4Ti4400 in performance in most cases, which it probably eventually will, but the Ti4600 will always be a good 15-20% faster than the R8500.

The only thing that the GF4 Ti that is clearly superior to the R8500 is the extra Vertex shader. Most games don't use the shaders right now.

8500 has the best performance/price ratio.
additionally, your system is not powerful enough to use ti4600.

Just to add to what flamethrower205 claimed: here is the link that teach you how to "morph" a GF4 into Quadro4! :D

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1013385350

And I wanted to add also that what makes the GF4 really powerfull (beside its extra pixel and vertex shadders unit) are its perfomance with FSAA at high resolution: you'll be able to play at 1024x768x32 with Quincunx FSAA enabled and still hit over 60FPS in most game.

Here is a good review to compare different nvidia products (especially the GF4) under an Athlon platform:

Parhelia? I hope all the rumors are true.

I can't think of a good signature so I'll use this one.

all im thinking about is getting the best price to performance card i can really. i was kinda hoping to go with the 8500 anyway its better priced and it seems a bit jump from my geforce 2 ultra that i have at the minute... i guess i could always get a ti4600 if i decided that the 8500 was a bit too slow or something !!
is it worth the wait to see whats coming out from other companies? ive just read about something from matrox and im pretty sure that ati are meant to be releasing something to battle with the ti 4600... but i havent heard anything about that.
any sugguestions?

There will always be thing coming out around the corner. I doubt you'll find the Radeon 8500 too slow, however. Since ATI is supposedly releasing a 128MB Radeon 8500, I suggest you wait a bit to see the performance of that thing on Tom's Hardware or another review site.
