I'm going to replace my old S3 Trio3D/2X card with a new one. My decision is between the ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR card or the NVIDIA GeForce2 MX 400 (the prices are more or less the same).
My system is an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 256 MB DDR SDRAM, with QDI KuDoz 7 2.0 motherboard, supporting up to AGP 4X.

- What card is faster and what card offers better image quality?

- What's is better for Linux (i.e. XFree86) compatibility and performance? I have read that 2 chipsets are incompatible with XFree86 3.3.6. Have I to upgrade necessarily to XFree86 4.2.0, or is there a different solution (like a third party driver)?

Thanks very much for your opinions.

Djinn.-

Being a owner of both, the Radeon64 blows away the GF2MX400 in everything. Speed, image quality, anything relating to a video card. Really go with the Radeon 64 in short.
