Monitor shuts off after switching users

Our family has a Sony Vaio running XP, and when logging out to switch
users, we often (not always) have the monitor go to sleep, breifly
claiming 'no input signal' and then it disables the mouse and keyboard,
while the computer remains on (not asleep). We are only able to get it
going again by shutting off the power and restarting.

Any others that had a similar problem? And found a solution?
