The new ATI 8500 drivers have been released by ATI.
Are they worth the effort to install.
Mixed reviews over at Rage3D.

The new XP Driver:

These "new" drivers are not worth it. Theses so called "new" drivers were leaked a while ago. We already have the better 6043 and 6052 drivers.

AMD technology + Intel technology = Intel/AMD Pentathlon IV; the ULTIMATE PC processor

i was going to say that exact same sentence...ah well...
anyways...i also think that the 6037 drivers suck...just stick with the 6043 or the 6052 driver...if the 6043 driver is giving you problems...use the latter driver...

I found the 6043 driver crashed Windows Media Player.
End result was a reinstall of WinXP to fix the problem.
Oh well; those are the risks taken when beta drivers are used.

Amazingly enough, I got a speed increase from the 6052 drivers in D3D over the 6043.

The only advantage of the 6037 is that they are certified, so they are not a bad starting point from which to first install your sytem with before you start monkeying around with betas.

Strange how they waited for certification on those, but still don't have it for the 6025 drivers.

I do not like it Tom you see,
I do not like green PCB.

good point...i havent thought about that though....perhaps the 6037 had less bugs in it?...i dunno either...but i liked the 6025...more than the 6037...ah well...as long as we get drivers...

You cannot compare the offical drivers to beta's
Compare the new offical to the last offical drivers then decide which is better!

Most of us know the 6043 and 6053 drivers are better but they are beta! Some people will choose the 6037 cause they are more stable and non beta!

I wait for the 6054 for 2K but all driver test up to now where stable for me.

cheap, cheap. Think cheap, and you'll always be cheap.AMD version of semi conducteur industrie

Thanks. I'm just glad people enjoy it. What good is life if you can't enjoy it.
