here is a question about the server and desktop.
Suppose that a server and a desktop are running under the same hardware configuration but different OS,let's say Win 2000 server for server and Win 2000 workstation for desktop.which one should be quicker?
In another word, when you pay more money on a server which is with same hardware configuration as a desktop, you expect what? the speed or the reliability?
Thanks for your opinion.
As far as I know, there would be no performance increase from going from win2k pro to win2k server, or advanced server for that matter. I believe that the main (only?) differences between the OSs are taht win2k pro supports up to two cpus, win2k server is up to 4 (or 8 maybe), and win2k advanced server supports up to 16, or perhaps more.
So, as is my understanding, a dual cpu server would perform the same under either one of the OSs. But if you're gonna be using 16 cpus, then pro and server won't help you.
