Jaggies

I am thinking of buying a gforce4 TI 4600. Is it better to run at 1024 x 768 with antialiasing set at 4x and Anisotropic filtering x 8 or run with these disabled (game select) at 1600 x 1200. Which would be better to stop jaggies???

i say to run at 1024x768x16 with 2x AA. 4x will lower your fps dramatically, beside, the jagged edges are hardly noticible at 1024x768

I'd say either 2x AA or 1600x1200. However, I run my 8500 at 1024x768 and don't notice the jaggies at all. But that's just me.

It depends on the game. The GF4 can handle 4X AA easily on older games, but it loses a lot of performance with Anisotropic filtering. It's say 1024*768*32 MAX 2X AA + 8X Aniso will give you the best image quality/performance ratio on your TI4600. My R8500 can handle that setting on all but latest most demanding games. The Ti4600 is a good deal faster so it should be able to handle that on all modern games.

Or you could be like me since the TI 4600 is sooo godly and just run everything at 1600x1200 32 bit color WITH 4xS super D3D AA on and have everything look just peachy-)

Do oh DO set your monitor to 1600x1200 32bit before viewing these pics or you just wont get the same effect...

That may work with less graphic intensive games but try MOH:AA at 1600*1200*32 MAX + 4X FSAA, and even a Ti4600 won't be able to handle that.

How do you know? Any proof?
I don't beleive it entirely, MOHAA uses a Q3 engine but hugely revamped, still it does have to be such a drainer. I suspect lack of optimization. The game stutters too much on my comp in single player, it's just not fun.
Now games like Aquanox, THAT makes sense. You don't need AA in that game anyway, 1024*768 is enough to enjoy it smoothly and graphically.

...I know because people at Rage3D and SharkeyForums are reporting that even the Ti4600 drops frames in MOHAA sometimes. It's a very CPU intensive and graphics intensive game. I don't think any current generation graphics card, even the Ti4600 can jectle it at 1600*1200*32 at maximum details with 4X FSAA.

Ya well not many ever did at such res, I mean there you are pushing full rendering capacity, including FSAA! Maybe Quincunx Accuview would be much more effective!
