XPSP2 Mapped LPT1 to Network Printer hangs

Have run into following problem:

Running several computers on Windows XP SP2 with all patches installed
through Automatic Update. Have some older programs that print to LPT1.
Have mapped network printers to LPT1 using

NET USE LTP1 \\server\printername

Most computers have no problem. However, have two where when running the
printing job just hang on printing. Any ideas (problem seemed to pop up
after one of the patches applied post SP2 on a rebuild computer last June).
