i just purchased a Radeon 8500 retail..n as excited as i ever could have been..i tried this first w/ my counter-strike game..(open-gl mode @1024*768..thats it..no other settings n no oc-ing yet)..to my disappointment..the result was like s***!!..it was lagging all the time...so i tried it on d3d mode..again..no improvements had been noted.
does anyone knows whut should i do?..or r there some settings i should change in the games or in the card itself??
plz help! thanx!

What processor do you have? You probably don't have V-Sync on. Yes, you can plug in an analog monitor with the DVI-to-VGA adapter.

Yes, make sure "Wait for Vertical Sync" under OpenGL is enabled. The CPU is ok, it shouldn't be a problem.

What version of the drivers are you using? I'd recomend grabing the 6052 for 2000/XP from Rage3d, or the newest 9X drivers from there.

Your CPU shouldn't be a big problem, however, a processor upgrade will give you dramatic improvements in your framerates and how far you can push the card. What is your MB and memory (Type and size)?

Heard Jedi Knight II (Outcast) doesn't work will on the Radeon. Optimized for GF3 or some such crap.

never heard of that game before...so i wont comment on it...anyways...there are a bunch of games out there that are optimized for one card or another...ati has a few "optimized" games...

i ahve the radeon 8500dv AIW not overclocked and original drivers off the install cd. my CS res is 1024x768 and i am getting my max 100fps with excellent quality. if v-sync is deafault then that's on too because i didn't mess with those setting yet. is there some other way that your measuring your video cards performance other than the fps on net graph?

repeat after me, we are all individuals!

CS is such a old game that any P3 or Athlon/Duron processor will be able to run it without a hitch.

Anything goes when it comes to hoes cuz pimpin aint easy.

Well, the speed and the amount of RAM you have has an effect. If you don't have enough RAM and your computer is forced to use the swap file, the game will drop frames.

anyway..i also didnt make any change on the settings but have the latest driver installed..yet..i only got an avg of 40-50 fps..i wonder..if anyone ever makes any change on any setting to get radeon 8500 to run @ its full power..im really lookin forward to see that happen on my case

Ouch, that chipset maybe holding you back. If you have an extra $60, get an ECS K7S5A.

y..ur rite..my sis 630/730s chipset is not good..i once had the mobo gone up to 133mhz external clock..n my system locked up rite away..to solve the prob..i had to clear my cmos...i was then told that my mobo could only handle up to 100mhz external clock..really pi**ed off
tru.k7s5a would be a good choice for my nxt system upgrade

btw..heard some ppl r talkin bout their radeon cards havin a new 3.3ns ram or 3.8ns ram...so n so..wut on earth is that?..how do i check that from my card?..anyone?

Look on your graphic card memory chips. The last 2 numbers determine the values.

Doesn't the 630/730 have onboard video? If so make sure it is disabled in BIOS. If there isn't an option to do this then look in Device Manager and see if the onboard video is there. If it is there then just disable it in the hardware profile.

Are there AGP drivers for the chipset? Try using the latest.
