Making a prophecy here...
within 9 months we will have graphics cards that use their onboard memory in a dual channel nature.
why do i make this prediction?
A. despite the vast increase in DDR speeds, from less than 175 in the early geforces to 300(600) for the geforce4's, memory bandwidth is STILL the limiting factor at high resolution, especially if u consider any form of AA.
B. very fast DDR (lower than 3ns) is mighty expensive... yields are low, and operating temperatures are not.
C. Nvidia has managed to design & produce a very high performing and stable mobo chipset, first time out, and is the only one that has produced a dual channel chipset for the athlon (despite the bandwidth not being used too well)
could such tech & knowhow be modified for a dualchannel graphics card???
D. economics. getting back to the cost of ram, having desinged a dualchannel chipset they can save considerable money by using much slower ram yet still getting superior bandwidth.
i.e. what would u prefer? 1xDDR300 giving 600mhz or 2xDDR200 giving effectivly 800mhz?
when i get proven right, all you guys can chip in and buy me one of these new cards
I had a very profound signature, but it was over 100 characters
