XP "forgot" my user password

My copy of XP suddenly "forgot" my user account password - when I try to
log in, I just get an error message asking me if I've forgotten my
password. There are no other accounts on that machine and I didn't set
a security question when I created the password.

I know that I'm using the right password. I've also tried a couple of
different keyboards, with no luck. This problem came up right after an
intense electrical storm. My roommate's computer was damaged, but my
computer boots up and otherwise seems to be okay.

Is there a way to fix this without reinstalling XP?
