I got my gentoo system up and running nice with 2.6.0 now. It's sweet. I haven't quite gotten alsa to work with the soundstorm yet (maybe I have, I just don't have digital out yet (which doesn't even really work too well), and I don't have any analog cables/speakers to test it out with). No biggie though.

The thing I'm really excited about is that I got wine running and I have managed to get both half life and steam installed. Steam crashes right now when CS starts up, and HL only sorta works, but I'll leave that for tomorrow. :)

Stage 1 ;)

It doesn't really take all that long on my new system though. I was waiting around for 2 or 3 days with my XP1800+ and 512 MB ram, but I was able to go from a blank hard disk to gentoo stage 1 with xfree and gnome in 8 hours.

i don't have linux working with my sound yet and nobody so far is willing to hep and if they are they have no idea what to do about 5.1 channel sound.

(also SPDIF doesn't work for me)

.asoundrc i think is where i should be doing it

i think thats also where you can turn on SPDIF as a slave device

but anyway good luck and if you know what you are doing in that file then please give me a buzz and tell me :'(

I had it working for my sb live, although I don't have it going for my soundstorm yet. There is a really good guide over on the gentoo website about how to get alsa working properly. There's a link in the desktop configuration guide they have.
