I have a cable modem and linksys router. I'm getting dsl also. I have a 2nd linksys router with different ip address. The cable router is dhcp server. Is there any way to choose which one you log onto in win 98se? (i.e. two copies of IE6 for example?)

I have 4 computers plugged into a linksys router & switch. The cable modem is plugged into the router which is dhcp server. I'm getting dsl next Monday. I have another linksys router for the dsl modem. It has a diff IP address from the other router. I just uplinked it to the network thru the switch. Is it possible to somehow choose whether you logon to the internet thru cable or dsl in win98? Or do I have to phyisically move the network cables from one router the other depending on which one I want to use?

silly question: Why do you have BOTH cable and DSL?

Regardless, it's probably easier to just physically switch the WAN connection.

It's always the one thing you never suspected.

Don't see a reason for both, but your not even going to utilize your DSL by just hooking it up to an uplink on a switch.

not really any easy way to do this on the fly, to get to the internet through a different way, you have to change the default gateway. there may be a way to packet switch the connections, i have to look at my router when i get home.

I thought I would compare them, see which one is really faster!

How about if I hook the dsl & router to another computer and staticlly route the two networks together? Just trying to learn exactly what you can do with networking!

Uh like through a server with 2 NICS for the incoming connections directly from the cable and dsl modems then have another NIC to go out to a hub/switch/router to provide connections to the other PCs. And you would have to set up load balancing on the 2 incoming NICS to that it uses them equally. This should all work in theory =).
