Son of a b****.

Fujitsu, after making negotiations impossible with amd, have closed the fab I work.....worked at, and layed off 700, including me.

The large severance package is hardly enough to smooth over the anger of being paged at 5:30 am and told you were out of a job, because they were too stubborn to accept AMD's help......I myself am ok, but many of my coworkers have nothing to do, and many bills mounting up.


They blamed it on the terrorists ::shakes head::. Scapegoat using bastards.

PS: I swear to god meltdown/fugger/spuddy/intel, if you flame me or make fun of my (and others's) situation, I will spend the rest of my forum time seeking to humilate you and get you removed....I am not in the mood for flaming.

That sucks. Companies are using the 911 event to cut back costs and lay off people that they otherwise really couldn't have gotten rid off. The airline industry is of course the prime example but you got screwed too.

It should get better though. Recessions never last long and the market seems to be showing promise. The question is how long can you survive without a good job and how are you going to get into a life long job again?

Was there no way to be transfered or anything?

Ignore them - they're not worth your effort - at the moment you need to concentrate your efforts elsewhere.

Your gonna hate me for this - but quit being upset - pick yourself up and get out there. You need to start afresh and sitting on here venting ain't gonna get you a new job. So Get up and start moving on. You could turn this into the biggest oppurtunity of your life. You just need to think about where you want to go and what you want out of life.

We all know you can do it. So don't let yourself down.

I agree techie, when I posted this it was only a frew hours after having the bombshell dropped(and it came out of nowhere). We were told up until the last day amd was coming to save us, and then we learn fujitsu made it difficult for them to do so, alot of us felt betrayed.

I however am not bitter or super upset, I still recieve full pay for 2 months, then a severance package which may amount to 5000+, that an unemployment will keep me fiancially secure for at least 8 months, plenty of time to secure a job in the semiconductor industry, especially since I have nearly 10 letters of recomendation from engineers and supervisors to fill up my resume lol.

PS: Did you know that I cant get another job for 2 months or risk losing my severance and pay, lol, thanks for the 2 month paid vacation fujitsu!

It was pretty much the other way around, everytuime amd made a good faith fair offer Fujitsu overexaggerated their position to try and get more, finally deciding it would be better to close the fab than to admit loss and sell to amd.
