i'm getting my radeon 8500 tomorrow, it's a HIS Excalibur Radeon 8500 64MB 275core/memory. obviously it is "powered" by ATI, and when i went to ATI.com for the latest driver, i found that there are 2 different version of drivers, ones is listed under " powered by ATI driver" which is called a reference driver, and one is the offical "built by ATI driver" listed under "built by ATI", so dose it matter which driver i use? i mean the Nvidia board are all made by 3rd party manufacturers, and they all utilizes detonator. so does this " Built by ATI driver" released by ATI works the same way as Detonator? can i just inistall the "Built by ATI driver", even thou i'll running a 3rd party board? need a reply urgent ..thanx guys

You should be aware that some "powered by ATI" Radeon 8500 has their memory clock lowered. My friend had his card lowered to 275/252 and when overclocking it could only take 275/260!!! Some companies use cheap memory. I´m not saying HIS Excalibur is bad, just check the default setting...

The best driver around for my configuration is the 4.13.01.9023, the newest driver is the 4.13.01.9026.

What kind of Windows are you using (XP, 98, ME)?

My System:

1,5GHz Duron 1,7
ECS K7S6A Mobo
256MB DDR266
ATI Radeon 8500
300W PSU
Windows ME (4.90.3000)

<b><font color=red>ATI</font color=red>'s drivers are like a broken faucet, they both keep on leaking...</b>

Use the built by driver. It works for any 8500 card out there.

For XP, the most recient driver is 6073 (or 6071, not sure, but it's 607X), that is a beta though, as is the 6058 (The ones I run, very nice) and 6052. The 6043 is the latest official driver and does run very nicely.

now 2 another question... what is the best oc software i can use for my 8500 that dosn't eat up all the system resources.?
and what is the hightest score on 3dmark 2001 original with a 8500 running at 1024x768x16 24bit z, double or triple buffer.. no AA?
