Kwe sewakwekon, Hello everyone, are the screens on the Nintendo DS the
same 240*160 or so Resolution that the GBA and SP are? I've got one of
them GBA Movie Player gadgets and my original GBA without Backlight is
a bit dark for viewing so considering a GBA SP or DS to replace it, I'd
go for the DS if a bit bigger and higher Res but the SP would be fine
otherwise........I'm not a big game player, in fact my fave game to
play right now on the hand held is probably the ANCIENT Galaxian Game
I'm playing via Pocketnes. I own a wopping 1 Game for GB, the Need for
speed underground.

I think the DS screens are slightly bigger -- 256x192 or so.

The unit itself is much bigger though, about double the size of the SP,
so if you don't really care either way you might buy an SP just because
it's so much nicer to carry around (and cheaper). I think the SP's
super small carrying size is its best feature.

[I believe the backlight technology is also different (though I don't
own a DS, so I'm not certain); as I understand it, the DS uses more of a
true backlight, whereas the SP uses edge lighting. I don't particularly
mind the SP's lighting, but I've seen people that say they prefer the DS
in that respect.]

Yea the DS has a way better screen!! I prefer the DS over my old SP
even for playing GBA games. The DS is simply a bette rmade device.
Also the unit is a better size for playing games (IMO) altho I agree
nothing beats the SP's compactness.. it is very convient that way.

I would not recommend the SP to anyone at this point, unless they were
getting a deal on a used one since it has reached the end of it's
lifespan.

There are only 2 things that I would recommend a SP for these days.

1. playing old "Square" GB games, the DS doesn't play any GBBW or
GBC games

2. Playing RPG style games with one hand. the DS doesn't do the 1
handed thing very well ^_^.

I own a DS, and have owned an SP, and I can personally verify that the
DS uses true backlighting, and the DS' backlit displays make the colors
in GBA games much more vivid regardless of which of the DS' displays you
use (you can use only one of the DS displays for GBA games, but you can
choose which one you can use).

By comparison, the SP's sidelit display tends to produce a slight
whitish glare that washes out the colors.

Thank you kindly. The SP's lack of a Headphone jack annoys me. The DS
isn't that big, I carry a backpack for all my Kanien'keha(Mohawk
Language) research materials and lunch anyway so size is a non issue.
Hate carrying my Laptop tho, too BLASTED heavy! lucky I invested a
WHOLE $28 in a Gray scale Powerbook 5300 ;-) Ain't Ebay GREAT hehehehe

Nia:wen sewakwekon, Thanks everyone, Very Helpful! I got one of them
Gameboy Movie Players and the lack of backlight is annoying on the
original GBA, I want to use the GBAMP's ability to read TXT files for
bedtime story reading to my girls in total darkness, do that now with
my ANCIENT Palm but getting new files onto it is a headache as it's pre
USB AND the Serial to USB adapter I have has no OSX software. I bought
an Ethernet widget for it but still never tried it, seems lik emore
trouble than it's worth

Back to GBAMP, works GREAT for me! Tho wish it supported MP3 and MP4
playback without conversion. looking into rumour of Linux for GBA which
I hope will remove that trouble ;-)

O:nen ki' wahi' bye for now
