R300? anyone heard anything?

i want to know what ATI is doing to compete with nvidia's new chip.

nVidia has a new chip? ATI isn't going to compete with the NV25. The R300 is designed to compete with the NV30, at least that's what the specs suggest.

I read the rumour specs over at xbitlabs.com and the NV30 looks like a monster. Seems way too complicated and seems like it'll be huge. According to that source, it'll have 2 cores, one for the normal stuff and one for T&L.

ye, ATI better make a clean release this time. i've read it somwhere, i think at rage3d.com that the prototype of the r300, radeon 9500? has already been developed, and one of the employee who got the beta card says that " it's gonna basically destroy eveything that's out there now and the ones that;s gonna be released in the future". but we just have 2 wait and see.

I'd say late Q302 to early Q402, which is like August-Octobre. About the same time NV30 is released. Although release and hitting the shelves are a little different.

Actualy, I'm developing a card in my basement and rumor has it that it will be the true king

Seriously, given architectural differences, driver issues, production quality, and memory optimization, it will be hard to tell who will have "THE" card to have till the they can be tested side by side. Untill then, you can talk rumored specs and performance all you want and you won't be any closer to knowing the truth.
