So I finally decided to upgrade to the Radeon 8500, so the remaining choice was which brand. I was impressed with the reviews and in particular the heat sinks on the Gigabyte version, that is, until I saw this!

I can't believe Gigabyte is throwing away their obvious advantage like this. Has anyone else seen this type of poor manufacturing job with Gigabyte video cards? I havn't made the purchase yet, but now I'm seriously considering buying another brand!

the card you are looking at is the 8500LE ,not the proper 8500, the 8500LE clocked at 250 core/ 250 memory, and that's y the memory are rated 4ns. If u get the retail 8500 from Gigabyte, it 'll have 3.6ns modules on it and are clocked at 275mhz or 550 ddr.
about the stock heatsink grease been poorly applied, almost all the card on the market these days have unevenly applied grease underneath their hsf, i've recently modded my 8500, when i removed the stock hsf, i found that more than half of the core arnt even covered by the thermal adhensives.

There is a retail (275/275) Gigabyte card that in reviews was able to go stably up to 305/310. As for the thermal compound, you can only expect so much from a fully automated production line.

Well, that explains it then. It just really surprises me considering how important heat dissipation is, and particularly on the Gigabyte board since their marketing angle is large heat sinks and overclocking software!
