Damn it this is frustrating. Can someone give me some links to articles comparing an ATI Radeon 8500 128MB(RETAIL!) card to GeForce 4 Ti-4400's? The prices are close, but what's the differences? GARRRR

Basically any R8500 and Ti4400 review would work. Just take the R8500's scores and add 5-10% on top of that in games like JKII/RTCW/Commanche4. Basically the newer games rely a bit more on extra memory. Even then the Ti4400 should beat a R8500 128MB hands down. Go for the Ti4400, preferably the Leadtek ones since they o/c really really well. (That heatsink really must help!)

Ok, now I'm leveled out. 50% says ATI, 50% says Ti-4400. Thanks for posting! Hopefully some more peeps will chime in! I've seen pics where teh ATI produced much more colorful pics in Quake III and such. Anyone?

What are you looking to do with your card? Simply games? or is it DVD playback, multi-monitor, ect...?

The 8500 is a very good card, as is the GF4. The GF4 has more brute force, but the 8500 has some nice programable features that people can use to power games more to their tastes (see Doom 3 on ATI posts and news). If you're only gaming, I think the GF4 is probably a better card. However, the 8500 has nicer DVD playback, and a more consistant image quality for 2D.

Ultimately, it will be personal preferance.

Do know you can buy the retail LE 128 from ATI and it has the same memory, and is easily OCable to well beyond the non-LE specs? Might save you some money.
