I'm upgrading a PIII 733, 320MB, 20gig HD from a 8MB ATI rage pro card to a newer one. I am running win2kp also. I was looking at the deluxe cards from ASUS, but the GF3's are no longer available. Does anyone know where I can still get one or suggest another vid card?
I appologize, I should have elaborated on the price point. I looked the GF4 Ti4200 and current price is $259. That is alittle higher than I expected/can afford for a vic card. I do want a high end one, but unable to go in that price range. Is there another one that is more feasible?
Killer,
Thanks for the information, just a question. Is there a deluxe model of that yet or is it a pure version. Which is the better mnfctr of it also. I appreciate any information you can give.
Gem,
I haven't see anything about Pure vs Deluxe.
After speaking with the dealers at the last show,
they feel price is everything in deciding. If you want certain features, then ya' gotta search it out.
Don't necessarily only look at ASUS cards. There many other good manufacturers like Gainward and Visiontek. They still have the Ti200 and they go for around $100... on pricewatch.com
I was looking to use the card comparable to the ATI all in wonder I have in my other system. To hook up my dig vid cam to, due to being older S-vid conneciton only. I also wanted to use it for mostly gaming and digital editing. The VR glasses are just a plus.
Does the GF4 have any of that or is that much better than the GF3? I heard it is comparable to the GF2 (the GF4)
Well the GF3 and GF4 are way out of the GF2s league in the way of features such as pixel and vertex shaders. Also the GF4s have the nice feature of nView. Even the Ti4200 which is the low end GF4 is better than the Ti500 which is the top-end GF3. In most ways the GF4 is superior to the GF3s. Now if you're talking about the GF4 MX then yes it is comparable to the GF2s.
The GF4 MX is a souped up GF2. A GF4 TI is a souped up GF3 (And TI).
The All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV is a nice card for 3D and video input and output, and it comes with a nifty remote. Not sure what it runs now, but it should be cheeper than the Delux models of the GF4 TI 4400 and 4600. The performance isn't quite as good as a standard 8500, but it's still quite nice, DX8.1 compliant, and should last you quite a while.

It goes for about $220USD. That's quite a bit cheaper, although you won't be getting near the performance. The R8500DV does have a lot more extra features though.
