I upgraded a machine from Windows 98 to Windows XP Pro, only to discover none of the software or user documents made it through intact. Now I get to reinstall Photoshop, Freehand, etc... And I've lost all my digital work (though i do have it some of it backed up)
Surely the dolts at Microsoft were not so dumb as to destory all the files in the "My Documents" folder during an upgrade. Or were they? Is there a place these documents were stashed so I can recover them?
Why has this never happened before when I upgraded a machine to XP Pro? I've done the same upgrade before without a problem.
...not much use after the fact, but never ever graft XP on to an already 98 machine - Back up what you need, do a full format and then a clean install.
