Please bear with me on this....

I've heard peopel getting close to 100 FPS in Half Life and CS, just upgraded my PC and I'm still in the 30-50 range depending on the map/objects on the screen. I used to play using one of the larger resolution settings like 1052X800 or something, but now I've gone down to 640x480 to see if I can improve frame rates. I've tried changing the OpenGL driver from "default" to "mini Driver" in the CS config, I've played around with the BIOS, etc...

Here are my system stats:
P4 1.7 Mhz
256 DDR
Gigabyte 8i.. mother board
PNY Geforce TI4400 video board
20 inch Multisync monitor
Windows 98 SE
Cable Modem

For all you CS players, what's your FPS, and help me improve mine.....
What benchmark program can I use to compare my performance to others with a similar system?? I used madonion before, but never really was able to compare my "score" to others with similar computers....

Here's a rundown of my system:

P4 1.60a @2133Mhz
MSI GF4 ti4200 (defaulted), on 29.42 drivers
512MB PC2100 samsung cl2 ddr @266MHz
GB 8IRXP mobo
Soundblaster Audigy X-Gamer sound card
60GB maxtor 7200rpm ata133 HDD
Rca Cable modem

My monitor's max refresh rate is 60Hz (old monitor). In CS it rarely goes below 59fps no matter where I am in a map, or how many other people or objects are there. Use the lates Detonator drivers if you aren't already and close the apps running in the background and try again, you should be running better than you are.

?????

How did I get here???

I have a PIII800 with a GF4 ti4200 and the max FPS I ever get is 100fps. But when there is like 20 people shooting at each other on the screen it can go as low as 50fps.

Now here's the kicker, before I upgraded to my GF4 I used to have a GF2MX. Before in CS 1.3 I was able to get a rock solid 72fps, but then I upgraded to 1.4 and the GF4 and I got a mesley 60fps and it would go as low as 30fps.

I pulled out a extra HDD and installed XP, CS and the current set of nvidia drivers and now I'm at the 100fps on CS 1.5.

I don't know why, but after I upraded to the newer card even with the newer drivers the system didn't run well until I re-installed Windows.

Who ever made up the phrase, "If it aint broke why fix it" just didn't get it...

oki as i told you i have posted a detail articl aboit that Gfroce4 ti FPS problem in a lot of game.

Here it is (with CS and MaxPayne screens):

<A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=faq&notfound=1&code=1" target="_new">Detailed post about Gforce4 FPS problem</A>

maybe it will help.

I am thinking of a Gforce4 / VIA chipset problem because i try my card in another computer and the problem was the same (only part in common was the Gforce and the VIA chipset).

In one of the config files for CS, the fps is limited to a max that the engine will render. I'm just wondering what you have that it set to right now. You can bring down the console and type in a command to view it as well, but I can't think of the console command at the moment.

I think its CS, I have a feeling they changed the render engine to try and thawrt wall hacks and all that. But in doing so performance takes a hit, CS 1.3 ran great.

Also make sure 4X AGP is on and try turning off SBA.

How do you get a FPS read-out in MOH?
