First of all, here are my system specs:

Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz)
ASUS Geforce 4 ti4400 running at normal specs
512MB 266Mhz CL2.5 OEM RAM running at CL2
MSI KT3 Ultra Motherboard
DLink 538Tx Ethernet
SB Live! 5.1 OEM

Running Windows XP

thats about all that is relevant. I built this system myself about 2 months ago. At first I didnt doubt myself of the performance because it was running like 10x better than my old comp but now im starting to get suspicious.

At the default setting my 3D Mark score is 7128 3D Marks... this is VERY slow for my configuration and im starting to wonder if my Graphics card is defective. I should be getting around 9500-10000 points with this system. Here are in more detail my 3D Mark score:

Game 1 Car Chase - Low Detail 105.3 FPS
Game 1 Car Chase - High Detail 38.8 FPS
Game 2 Dragothic - Low Detail 124.5 FPS
Game 2 Dragothic - High Detail 74.0 FPS
Game 3 Lobby - Low Detail 94.7 FPS
Game 3 Lobby - High Detail 47.4 FPS
Game 4 Nature 36.1 FPS

Fill Rate (Single-Texturing) 927.5 MTexels/s
Fill Rate (Multi-Texturing) 2080.4 MTexels/s

High Polygon Count (1 light) 40.1 MTriangels/s
High Polygon Count (8 lights) 9.4 MTriangels/s

Environment Bump Mapping 135.2 FPS
DOT3 Bump Mapping 113.2 FPS

Vertex Shader 75.3 FPS
Pixel Shader 89.5 FPS
Advanced Pixel Shader 77.4 FPS

Point Sprite 27.8 MSprites/s

Note: this shows my fill rate at 40 Million Triangles/sec but on NVidias Website it shows 125 Million Triangles/sec

Im just wondering if anybody is experiencing similar performance problems with the ti4400 and if there is anything I might have forgotten in the BIOS or whatever...

By the way in the 3d Card comparison on MadOnion.com my card coincides perfectly with ti200 speeds... thats really bad... I paid 470$ CND for this card!!!

What version of the drivers do you have? Also did you run the test on default? Oh yeah one more thing. A lot of background running programs also really cuts down on performance. Run the test after a fresh restart.

I partially fixed it now... turns out I was running it in Direct X Debug since I use DX for programming... partially fixed because its still about 500 points under but its a huge difference... morrowind still isnt as fast as I wish it was though :p

I run the same exact setup, except using a Gainward card and am getting R8500 levels. $300 U.S. was so overkill....

Uh..... what's with all this bad performing stuff. Have any of you tried to run a different benchmark perhaps? I was gonna build a new comp by myself but just reading these posts here makes me wanna second guess myself... The same thing, do you have many programs running the background?

I got no apps running in the Background... only Explorer.exe so my benchmarks are perfectly accurate. Maybe my card got screwd or something cuz im only getting 9000 and I should be getting 9500 but its way better than my last score... make sure you dont have DirectX Debug installed cuz thats slow slow slow...

my oc Radeon 8500( 295/295) gets 8843
http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=3691921
and i only have a xp1.6, 256mb ddr , MSI K7T266 Pro2RU , win98se and the latest Catalyst driver.

maybe you should do a bit of driver tweak and bios tweak as well, eg, set ram 2 cas2, disable all the onboard stuff you dont' need, turn all setting on low in your vga driver... etc.

Check if your bios setting got AGP fastwrite. Turn it on and check to see if your card is running AGP 4X. Also change your AGP apature size to 128MB. You can check your agp speed with WCPUID program.

Also like what chuck232 said, get detonator 29.42 from Nvidia website or 29.60 from www.guru3d.com.

Well 6771 with that setup is about right, maybe a bit below, but close. GF4 cards scale CPUs very well, so the lower performing CPUs do lose out on quite a bit of performance.
