Hey all, I wanted some advice about chosing a new video card. Currently i'm on a very old computer and am going to upgrade in a few weeks to a 1.5Ghz Athlon. I've been looking through reviews at cnet for a card that has fairly good framerates, and a low cost. I'm not really interested in having top of the line, just something that I can play my games at a decent resolution with max detail. I've found the following:

ATI Radeon VE (32MB DDR, dual display, VGA, DVI) $80 or
GeForce2 MX-based Asus AGP-V7100 $120

What are your opionions on these cards? Any personal experience with them? Is there another card that you would recommened? Please share anything you think would help me. Thanks )

Well, I wouldn't go with that GF card. You can get a GF3 ti200 cheaper than that card and it will perform a whole lot better.

That is a nice <b><font color=green>Garbage Can</font color=green></b> you have there!

I would recommend against either. I know the VE is a poor performer. And the MX, well, the original was a little better than the VE, the MX200 was much worse, and the MX400 was the same as the original MX. Newegg.com has the GeForce2 Ti 64MB for $62 and the Radeon 7500 for $68. I'd go for the Radeon 7500.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

If you've got a $120 you can get an ATI RAdeon 8500 for $99 or you can cough up an extra $30 like I did and get the GF4 Ti4200 which is what I did and what I would recommend.

HULK SMASH!!!
