Hi

I want to upgrade my video card, and I was thinking about buying a Gigabyte Radeon 8500LE Pro 64 MB DDR. But now I've noticed that the same store where I wanted to buy this Radeon has got a MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB DDR for sale 50 US dollars cheaper than the Gigabyte Radeon 8500LE! Now I don't know which one to purchase... The Radeon 8500LE has a lot of cool features including Truform, which seems really nice. But the Geforce 4 Ti 4200 surpasses it in benchmark tests and seems superior... This one being 50 dollars cheaper... Hmmm... I think the MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB DDR is a better buy, don't you think?

Ok, Gigabyte ATi cards are quite a bit more expensive than the Made by ATi cards. How much is the Gigabyte? I've seen it for $135USD and the MSI GF4 Ti4200 64MB @ $141? Dunno why it's cheaper than the Gigabyte one. NE ways, you should try and find a ATi R8500LE. Tell me the pricing and I'll be able to better help you.

What's the deal with lampshades, I mean it's a lamp, why would you want a shade?

Hey there Chuck. Thanks for replying.

Well, here in Portugal, the Gigabyte Radeon 8500LE Pro 64 Mb DDR (model AP64-D) costs about 263 USD and the MSI Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB DDR costs about 211 USD. I guess the video card prices here are quite high. But if I can buy a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 for 50 USD less than the Radeon 8500LE, why shouldn't I do it? Is the Anisotropic Filtering so important (as it seems to be the only thing better on the Radeon 8500 than on the Geforce 4 Ti 4200)?

Well can you find a ATi made card? Usually they are cheaper. If not, then go for the GF4 Ti4200. It'll make you happy. Overclock it of course, that's the only way you'll get all out of your card.

Not here, in Portugal...
Chuck, I'm not really thinking about overclocking... It's something I never did before and I'm afraid of doing it, be it the Radeon or the Geforce. Another thing, does overclocking involve buying another cooler for the GPU?
But if you had to buy one of the cards I mentioned before just for use of stock speed, which one would you go for, the Geforce 4 Ti 4200 being 50 USD cheaper?

I'd also go for the GF4 Ti4200, it being cheaper and usually a bit faster. To overclock, you can use the retail fan, unless you want to really push it lot.
