hi,
I want to buy a new graphcard. I just took a look at tom's GF4 guide, and I saw that GF4Ti4200 64meg has normally better fps than GF4Ti4200 128 meg. I don't understand this (?) Could someone explain ?
Since I have to buy a card (mine's an ATI RAGE128 8MEG) i went to my favorite store (http://www.microbytes.com) and noted the prices for ASUSTeK GF4s

-Ge-FORCE 4 Ti4600-deluxe...615.00 $ (forget it)
-Ge-FORCE 4 Ti4600..........560.00 $ (forget it also)
-Ge-FORCE 4 Ti4400..........412.00 $ (yeah, maybe)
-Ge-FORCE 4 Ti4200..........328.00 $ (that's what i would buy)

All canadian fund (damn money not worthing nothing :p)

What do you think ? I think 412.00 $ for a graphcard is alot... Is there a big difference ? I'm an hardcore gamer (Unreal T, Q3Arena, CounterStrike and maybe WarCraft 3)

Thanks for replying !
(Sorry for all my english faults, I'm french :D)

id personnaly recommend an ati 8500, but make sure its the retail version of the LE, its far cheaper than the geforce cards and the picture is perfect. the speed off of my particular card isnt great due to me having a older model... which is a shame, this is why i say check the memory speeds before you buy..
they arent going to be anything much faster, if at all as the geforce 4s but there you are paying a premium, and with the ati cards, you arent.. they have been out for a while..
the 128 meg cards have slightly slower memory than the 64meg cards, but you can overclock the 128meg cards to go to 64meg levels or failing that, as fast as the geforce 4 ti 4400...
it also depends on cpu memory motherboard config, so just go with something that you feel comforatable with..
im sure with whatever your choice you will be happy as the cards stated are darn fast!!

if all else fails... kick it and if it goes wrong, say it wasnt you...

Yeah the Canadian dollar isn't so good huh? I live here too and it gets pretty frustrating at times.

Ok, a GF4 Ti4400 would kill the GF4 Ti4200. It'll perform >10% better than a GF4 Ti4200. I dunno if the ~$90 is worth it or not. I'd personally go for a GF4 Ti4200 and overclock it. A GF4 Ti4200 should be more than enough to run all the programs you mentioned very well at high resolutions.

P.S. One thing, if there's a Futureshop nearby, then go there and see if you can find a Radeon8500 128MB retail. It's $349CDN, but after the rebate it's $269CDN. Pretty good price for that thing. IT'll perform near GF4 Ti4200, although overclocking may not get it as good as a GF4 Ti4200 overclocked. Personally I'm not sure about that deal cause it's a mail-in rebate and I've "lost" many a rebate in the mail.

What's the deal with lampshades, I mean it's a lamp, why would you want a shade?
